Things We Hide From the Light

“ “Baby, if it makes you feel better, I’m scared to death right now that I won’t be able to take a breath without you wrapped around me.”

Things We Hide From The Light, ya’ll I WAS NOT READY FOR ALL THE FEELS!

Okay, so let’s get into the review…. Nash was shot back in TWNGO right and he is still dealing with that fall out. New, we meet Lina back in the first book as well, who is Knox’s ex-GF but they were really best friends who decided to date super beefy and it didn’t work out and they are still BF’s. No drama there. When she has her first run in with Nash, he’s in the middle of s full blown panic attack and she helps him. Nash…Nash has been struggling. I mean my boy is riding the depression train HARD and I felt for him and empathized with him SO much throughout this book. If you hav ever had to deal with depression and anxiety, you will feel seen so much. The way Lucy wrote Nash vulnerability was so real and so raw. It was 🤌🏾.
Lina, has he own share of issues as well, because of course she does. Lina puts on this hard extra because she was so vulnerable almost her whole life and she has to prove to everyone she’s okay, but Nash, my dude see’s right though that hard shell and gets to that marshmallow center. And of course Knockemout wouldn’t be Knockemout without the town’s crazy residents, from the senior cectizens aerobics class that almost Killed Lina and Stef, to the whole town playing detective. The laughs were a plenty and the steam was steaming. I was Leary how she was gonna top Knox and Naomi but she did. A great ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ star read gain!
Cant wait for Thing We Left Behind, because Lucian and Sloan are gonna burn those pages UP

Savage Rivals by Becca Steele(Review Post)

Published November 30, 2021 by bookbesties

Asher and Levi both attend rival schools and they compete against each other on the Pitch. They both come from different worlds as Levi is privileged and Asher has struggled for what he has. The tension is high and the gloves come off in order to try to one up each other. The pranks played on both sides get a bit crazy. The battle of the Savages begins and one night ends up turning their emotions upside down and opening their minds to a different perspective. This is a rivals, enemies to lovers MM HEA that is a definite hit! I loved every turn of the page and equally fell in love for both. LEVASH all the way!! The story was emotional at times and the tit for tat can take you back at times but this story is like a movie you cant tear your eyes away from and you have to see what happens. The story is beautifully written and the characters are well developed. LEVASH is sexy, edgy and can also have that sweet softness with each other. You will not be disappointed!

Gentleman Seeks Bride: A Hazards of Dukes Novel(Review Post) by Megan Frampton

Published November 30, 2021 by bookbesties

In this delightful flip of a classic romance trope, Megan Frampton creates a handsome, witty, hero in need of a wealthy bride who meets his match in Lady Jane Capel, from A Wicked Bargain with the Duke. Perfect for fans of Sarah McLean, Tessa Dare, and Eloisa James.

“Strong heroines, sexy heroes, delicious stories. Make Megan Frampton your next read!” —Sarah MacLean, New York Times bestselling author

It’s a well-known fact that when a man is in search of a bride, a good dowry is never a hindrance.

Thomas Sharpe is handsome, well-bred, and desperately in need of a wealthy bride. His father has lost their income, his sister needs looking after, and so to save them all from a life of poverty he travels to London in search of an heiress.

Enter Lady Jane Capel. After her fiancé ended their engagement two years ago, Jane boldly left her parents’ home and moved in with her half-brother Percy. What does one more scandal matter to a family with such a curious reputation? Jane is independent, but not as well versed in life—and love—as she wants.

The two of them strike a deal: Thomas will show her all there is to know about the world —and intimacy—and Jane will help him find a bride. But the more time they spend together and the closer they get, the two of them soon realize that things aren’t so simple when it comes to men and women…

While this book is the first in the A Hazards of Dukes series that I have read, as you all know, it is not the first book or series I have read by this author.  I have to say it, Megan Frampton has written another super fun read!! She has a way of creating characters who complement each other flawlessly, while putting them in environments and situations that allow them to shine as both individuals as well as a couple.  These leading characters and this book are the perfect display of those skills.

Thomas Sharp is a well born gentleman without a penny to his name.  Thanks to poor investments made by his father he is now responsible to save his family by marrying a wealthy heiress.  This task should be as easy as a walk in the park for such a charming, good looking, gentleman as himself, right?  Wrong!  Two years into the task and he still has no prospects and the situation with his family has become desperate.  Will no one see past his rakish ways and give him a chance to prove he will make a good husband?

Lady Jane Capel just wants to claim her life for her own and live it while she can.  After her fiancé jilted her and her parents disowned her, she sought refuge from society living with her brother Percy.  Now that she has healed her wounds she is determined to experience all the joys of life.  To the point she makes a scandalous deal with her brother’s best friend, in the back room of a gaming club.  Will he keep his end of the deal and show her all the things she has been missing?

I had so much fun reading this book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Faking It with #41 (Hockey Hotties Book 3)Review Post

Faking It with #41 (Hockey Hotties, #3)Faking It with #41 by Piper Rayne

Here we have Mr Hockey Hottie Ford who we have seen as a Playboy and I would say a bit spoiled. First I should say that I was a little worried for this story because in my head Lena should be the only one in his life. Ford is a single dad and Lena is the family friend whose job is to basically put a cute bow on any situation with Ford family. This is a enemies to lovers, fake relationship, sports romance, single dad and I am pretty sure you will feel all bases are covered! Lena knows Ford is nothing but trouble but with time spent she starts to see a different side of him. I was anxious to see how Ford story was going to go. He was a bit of a wild one and to me he was not a favorite for me until I read his story. I should never doubt this author because they always surprise me. I loved Lena she was strong and sweet and she had a side to her that opened up Ford eyes to see some people have other sides to them. Ford I fell in love with. He won me over with his edginess and then his sweet side with his baby girl. The attraction is off the charts and Ford charisma will have you blushing and cheesing all the way to the end! Great read and a must one click!

The Lady Gets Lucky by Joanna Shupe(Review Post)

The Lady Gets Lucky (The Fifth Avenue Rebels, #2)The Lady Gets Lucky by Joanna Shupe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book two in The Fifth Avenue Rebels series is even better than the first book! She brought together the two most unlikely characters from the Newport house party that set the scene for book one and not only created a mutual agreement that was guaranteed to generate chemistry she gave them an incredible HEA. I love Joanna Shupe’s books and I really hope we get more from this series as it really does seem to get better with each new book.
Wallflower heiress Alice Lusk is determined to do whatever it will take not to be forced into a marriage based on the size of her dowry. In an act of either desperation or genius- or maybe a little of both- she makes a deal with a well-known rogue who she is certain can teach her the skills she will need to seduce the type of husband she desires. All she needs to do to convince him to teach her is tap into her hidden talent for cooking and the training she has been secretly receiving from her family’s hotel chef, and not get caught by her mother.
Determined to make something for himself beyond his notorious “party- boy” reputation, Kit Ward is banking on the successful grand opening of his supper club to do just that. The only thing he is missing is a top-notch chef of highest renown to draw in the cream of the crop clientele he is aiming for. The last person he expected to find the help he needed from is the shy, over protected, wallflower Alice Lusk, who has a crazy idea for him to give her lessons in how to attract a man. Who knew she would prove to be not only great in the kitchen but equally as talented in her studies of invoking passion in men?

I enjoyed this book so much and can’t wait to read book number 3!!!

Rules For Heiresses by Amalie Howard(Review Post)

Published November 2, 2021 by bookbesties

Born to a life of privilege, Lady Ravenna Huntley rues the day that she must marry. She’s refused dozens of suitors and cried off multiple betrothals, but running away – even if brash and foolhardy – is the only option left to secure her independence.

Lord Courtland Chase, grandson of the duke of Ashvale, was driven from England at the behest of his cruel stepmother. Scorned and shunned, he swore never to return to the land of his birth. But when a twist of bad luck throws a rebellious heiress into his arms at the very moment he finds out he’s the new duke, marriage is the only alternative to massive scandal.

Both are quick to deny it, but a wedding might be the only way out for each of them. And the attraction that burns between them makes Ravenna and Courtland wonder if it’ll truly only be a marriage of convenience after all.

Rules for HeiressesRules for Heiresses by Amalie Howard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amalie Howard is the queen of matching strong heroines with equally strong heroes. The dynamic romances she creates through environment, situations, and hot chemistry is what has me jumping on any and everything she writes. As you all know this book gives us the HEA for Lady Ravenna Huntly, who we met and fell in love with as Rystan’s rebellious younger sister and one of Sarani’s fiercest champions, in The Princess Stakes. We get to pick up her story just after where it left off in book 1 and from there we are taken on a wild adventure full of the sass, determination, and steamy romance we have come to crave from this author.
This is another book that gives a candid and raw look into the personal experience and effects being a “mixed- race” or bi-person of color can have on people. This time we see that it can affect men much the same as it does their more emotional female counter parts. As I said when I reviewed The Princess Stakes, I am going to say it again now….. BRAVO AMILIE!!! Thank you again, for being brave enough to shine a light on this subject. Your words continue to make me think, reevaluate, and evolve in the way I see things, and I deeply hope it does the same for EVERYONE else who reads these books. I profoundly feel that people need this kind of “safe” exposure for society to grow into a better future. Stories like this are vital in that effort.
Now on to the FUN part!
This heroine has a personality that is as fiery as her red hair and a streak of determination that runs so deep it could become one of her greatest faults. Guess it’s a good thing our hero is her long-lost childhood friend (who secretly has been in love with her like forever) and is the one who accused her of cheating in his club in Antigua. I can’t imagine how she would have been able to get out of the messy situation we find her in had it been anyone else. Caught in a scandalous position she trades one form of imprisonment for another when she is forced to “pretend” to be enamored with the man to whom she was once betrothed, to save herself from ruination. All she wanted was to live her life the way she chose and to experience freedom away from the strict rules of society.
Our hero has made an incredible life for himself despite being chased away from England by his stepfamily. The last thing he wants is to have to go back to England, become a Duke, or get involved with the one girl he has ever loved. It seems his entire past finally caught up to him the night we met him at the card table in his Antigua club. In a matter of hours, he went from threatening imprisonment to the man he suspects of cheating, to being found in a scandalous position with a woman he never thought he would see again, to finding out he is the new Duke of Ashvale. Will he turn his back on the past he has worked so hard to overcome or will he start a journey of healing and discovery by taking the first step and opening up to the one woman strong enough to stand by his side and break down his walls?

As I do with all books by this author I loved every second of this book and hope all of you do as well.

A Shadow In The Ember by Jennifer L. Armentrout(Review Post)

Published September 6, 2021 by bookbesties
A Shadow in the Ember (Flesh and Fire, #1)A Shadow in the Ember by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Make him fall in love with you, then end him…..

A Shadow In the Ember is I guess you could say a spinoff prequel to Jennifer Armentrout’s widely successful From Blood and Ash series. It takes place in the same world, just a reeeeeally long time before the events in FB&A. In this we meet Seraphena(Sera) who has been chosen and trined for one thing and one thing only. Make the primal of death fall in love with her, then end him. Its the only way she knows how to save her kingdom. But When that time comes, things don’t go as planned and now Sera has to face a new reality, Or so she thought. When the primal does come, he is like nothing she was expecting. The slow burn of Sera and Nyktos was one of the best ones I have read in a really long time.
I thought no one could beat out Poppy and Casteele(from Blood and Ash) for my fav couple, but I’m telling you now, SERA & NYKTOS have surpassed them so much and this only the first book in this series! Sera is everything you want in a strong female lead. Cunning, smart, fierce, strong and yet, vulnerable and loyal. And Nyktos is…he’s…well he’s Nyktos. He’s a Primal, THE Primal of death and gives of BDE(Big D Energy) BIG TIME! The book answers a few questions we may have from the Blood and Ash world, and tied in some key elements that we will need for the next book in the Blood and Ash world. It also left me with my pulse literally racing by the end and my mind blown.

I have been a long time reader of Jennifer’s and the way she wove this story into all the elements from the past and what I hope will come in later books is simply amazing.
I feel like I say this with every book she puts out lately, but this book was amazing! I’m speechless at how much this world has grown and how it keeps growing! I can’t wait for the next book!

Newspaper Nanny by Maren Moore(Review Post)

Published September 2, 2021 by bookbesties

by Maren Moore

🗞 💜 HOT NEW RELEASE! 🗞 💜

THE NEWSPAPER NANNY by Maren Moore is LIVE!

#1ClickHere

bit.ly/newspapernanny

When I stumbled across my dream job in the classified section of my newspaper, I knew it had to be too good to be true. Turns out it was. Becoming the nanny for the grumpiest hockey coach in the NHL was more like a nightmare. Liam Cartright was infuriating, stubborn, and impossible. Oh, and he happened to be my new boss. I should have signed my resignation with a giant kiss my ass the moment he opened his mouth, but I couldn’t. I fell for his little girls before I realized it was happening, and my resolve began to weaken. Our roles were clearly drawn out. He was the boss, and I was the nanny. But then we crossed a line. I wouldn’t lose my job over a chiseled jawline and a few stolen kisses. I couldn’t. Not when so much was at stake. But Liam was the one who made the rule book, and I had no choice but to play by his rules.

This was a new author to me and I love anything sports romance so I gave it a shot. Liam is sweet and you really warm up to him seeing him as a single dad and going through life. Juliet seems strong and independent and trying to make life work. She answers a newspaper ad for a nanny and finds herself interviewing with a sexy stranger that she had previously met. I enjoyed Juliet relationship with the girls but I felt that her relationship with Liam felt like it was missing something. I also felt like the ending was a bit lacking and didn’t really win me over. Liam was a bit hot and cold so you have some angst and you do get that HEA. I do give it 3 1/2 stars and would not be opposed to ready another book from this author to see if maybe it was just this story that didn’t fully win me over. I think overall its worth a shot for you to read. There are some funny moments and I really liked Liam mom and his girls so overall I recommend.

A Good Day for Chardonnay(Sunshine Vicram #2)-Review Post

Published August 24, 2021 by bookbesties
A Good Day for Chardonnay (Sunshine Vicram, #2)A Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amaze balls!!
Absolutely. To get the basics out of the way and do what I’m here for, 5 stars. Absolutely and if we can give bonus points to get more stars I would give them all to Darynda Jones; specifically for this book.

I love that you can read Darynda in every book she writes but they are not the same. As I said for A Bad Day for Sunshine, I LOVE Sun and Auri! My top book characters. Their mom-daughter banter and unconditional love will bring me back to reread and re-reread these book.

**Some spoilers as you go on, please be warned….**
The first book in the series closed up its plot holes nicely while still leaving more open to continue with the series. So many were closed in this book I wonder what else is going to open in the next book.

Something I’ve been waiting for since the first book happens… Sun and Levi totally and finally get to have sex and it looks like the start of something that should’ve always been.

Cruz. Oh Cruz De Los Santos. I have cried over and over in this book.
From Dangerous Daughters and stabbings to doorbells and raccoons this book was amazing (for me at least. Did you see the Amazeballs at the beginning?) and I cannot wait to see where we go from here.

Grace & Glory by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Review Post)

Published June 3, 2021 by bookbesties

Danger, betrayal, and enticing forbidden love clash in book three of #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Harbinger trilogy!

When Angels Fall

Trinity Marrow has lost the battle and her beloved Protector. Even with both demons and Wardens on her side, Trin may not win the war against the Harbinger.

Bringing Lucifer back to the world to fight the Harbinger is probably a really, really bad idea, but they’re out of options—and the world’s ultimate fallen angel is the only being powerful enough to impact the outcome.

As Trin and Zayne form a new and more dangerous bond and Lucifer unleashes Hell on earth, the apocalypse looms and the world teeters on the end of forever. Win or lose, one thing is certain—nothing will ever be the same.

I was really sad to start Grace and Glory because I knew it was the last and I didn’t want it to end but I was super excited to see what happened to Zyne, Trinity and crew so I dove right in.

I was so nervous reading this book because I was super anxious for something to happen(If you know, you know) and it was so satisfying when it did! Trinity and Zayne have new things in their life to navigate but on top of that Trinity has so much more to do. She has to prepare for an epic fight, she has to figure out what’s going on with her lovable ghost buddy, she has to get the love of her life back AND pray she gets the help of the one being who is known for NOT helping.

That’s enough problems for 10 people let alone one. But Trinity handles that, plus a few added extra issues along the way with humor, sweet moments and fighting, lots of fighting.

I was very happy with the pace and progression of the ending. Sometimes a final book can be a mixture of too much info or feeling like it was rushed or questions left kinda open. I’m glad that Jen doesn’t do that and this book couldn’t have ended on a more perfect chefs kiss and a surprise ending that I didn’t see coming(and I can usually guess the endings of books).

Jen has managed to turn a person (me) who didnt like Zyne since his DE days into loving the mess out of him in is own series and be happy that he finally got his HEA.  I’m going to miss Trin and the gang  😦
